New Film Tax Bill Brings Production Studios Back To Fort Lee

Production companies that got their start in Fort Lee are eagerly awaiting to return to the Garden State, provided the new film tax credit bill is signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy.

In 2010, Gov. Chris Christie suspended an incentive program, which had a $10 million cap on movies and $2 million on digital media.

A new bill sponsored by Sen. Loretta Weinberg gives $75 million in tax credits for movies and $10 million for digital media.

And so, production companies are "lining up" for their grand return across the Hudson River, Sony Pictures Classics Co-President Tom Bernard told NorthJersey.com.

Many television shows and movies such as "Orange Is The New Black," "Boardwalk Empire" and "World War Z" were written with hopes of filming in New Jersey but passed up the opportunity and ultimately were shot elsewhere, the article says.

Now is their chance to come back.
